On Saturday,
September 24th, 2011, we hosted a special celebration event for
all of our supporters and the general public....
Our very first group of young sturgeon, raised in our very own
onsite hatching and rearing facility here in New Richmond were
"sent home" into the Kalamazoo River with much fanfare.
Being that this was the very first year of this project in which
we successfully reared a sizable population of young Lake Sturgeon
(over 100 of them!) we wanted to throw a big event to celebrate
our first major success of this exciting program.
Hundreds of people turned out for the event which included special
guided tours of the site and the hatching/rearing station, various
information booths about our program and related sturgeon efforts,
a kids' fishing derby, a raffle and several food booths and booths
from our sponsors.
Also, during this event, we had some new members sign up and
some donations and a successful raffle; all of which helped to
raise a bit of the much needed funding to continue this program
into the future...
The weather was perfect - a great time was had by all. Posted
here are a few pictures from the event. We'll add more as we
receive them! |
